No one is certain where the Colossus stood. Some say it was
astride the entrance to Mandraki, Rhodes' yacht harbor, and that two modern-day
bronze deer atop tall pillars mark his stance.
Others declare that the Colossus was never astride anything
and merely stood beside the harbor entrance, or that it was among the 3000
pieces of treasure the Roman general Cassius sent home.
It is not sure if the ruins of the Colossus survived to this day or all were taken away by
Syrians. Archaeologists conducted searches on the seabed and on land as well but no conclusive remains of the
colossus were found.
